St. Peter's College Tororo demands justice for murdered former headteacher
The community of St. Peter's College Tororo is expressing outrage over the police's slow response in arresting those responsible for the murder of their former headteacher, Joseph Olokojo.
Olokojo was brutally attacked in his home in Ogolla village, Western Division, Tororo Municipality, on August 13.
Reports indicate that he was doused with petrol and later succumbed to his injuries on the way to Mulago Referral Hospital.
During a prayer service for Olokojo at Uganda Martyrs Cathedral Nyangole, the chairperson of the school's Old Boys Association, Professor Pakoyo Kamba, demanded that the police clarify the circumstances surrounding Olokojo's death.
"This shouldn't be another murder swept under the carpet. We demand justice and answers from the state. Those responsible should be brought to book," Professor Pakoyo insisted.
Despite the community's outcry, district security officials confirm that investigations are ongoing, though they admit the case presents significant challenges.
Tororo Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Nixon Owole described the investigation as complex, noting that the attack occurred at midnight inside a well-secured compound.
"This is one of the most complicated and difficult cases to investigate because it happened at midnight inside premises that are properly fenced, and the gate was not broken," Owole explained.
He assured the mourners that the investigation has drawn the attention of high-level authorities and that substantial progress is being made.
"As the head of security in the district, I can assure you that this matter has drawn the attention of the highest authority in this country, and no one can interfere with the investigation. The latest update from the police is that the investigation is nearing conclusion," Owole added, urging the public to remain patient.
Mourners remembered Olokojo as a compassionate and dedicated educator whose influence spanned over 30 years.
"Mr. Olokojo was not just a teacher and headteacher; he was a father, a mentor, a role model, and a friend. For over 30 years, he dedicated his life to teaching and mentoring, touching the minds of thousands of young men," they shared.
As the community waits for answers, they hold on to the memory of a man who made a profound impact on countless lives.
Olokojo's body will be laid to rest at his ancestral home in Ngora District today, 24 August 2024.
