Mother and child laid to rest after fatal bus crash
A heart-wrenching funeral ceremony was held in Kisoro District for 28-year-old Daphoroza Byiringiro and her three-year-old son, Rion Manzi, who tragically lost their lives in a horrific bus accident along the Mbarara-Masaka highway.
The accident, which occurred on Monday, involved a Gateway bus traveling from Kisoro to Kampala and a Fuso truck carrying maize flour.
The crash claimed six lives, including Daphoroza and her young son, a pupil at Rwingwe Primary School.
Daphoroza, a resident of Gakoro village, had returned to Kisoro to bring her children home for the holidays. She was employed at Cope Centenary Services in Kololo, Kampala.
The sendoff mass at St. Mary’s Rambura Catholic Church drew thousands of mourners, who were left in tears as they bid farewell to the beloved mother and child.
During the requiem mass, Rev Fr Jeremias Nsabamina, assistant parish priest of Gatete Catholic Church, urged mourners to avoid domestic violence and to strive for peace in their lives.
“Currently, there is increased domestic violence in our families. My prayer to God is that we are saved from this vice so that we can build strong families,” Fr. Nsabamina implored.
The tragic loss of Daphoroza and her child has left a devastating impact on their community, where they will be deeply missed.
