"MUBS partners to boost national growth
MUBS launches strategic partnerships to enhance skills, boost global competitiveness, and drive Uganda's socio-economic transformation.
KAMPALA | Makerere University Business School (MUBS) has launched four significant strategic partnerships aimed at enhancing Uganda’s socio-economic transformation.
The partnerships were officially announced on August 21st, 2024, during a ceremony held at the MUBS main campus in Kampala.
These collaborations align with Uganda’s Vision 2040 and the National Development Plans III & IV, targeting critical skill gaps and boosting the global competitiveness of Ugandan graduates.
The partnerships are expected to make a considerable impact across various sectors, including hospitality, education, and international trade.
MUBS has partnered with EDUSERV Agency Ltd, the Hotel General Managers Association of Uganda (HOGMAU), VOCCENT Inc, and the East, Central, and Southern African (ECASA) Group of Consultants.
Each partnership is designed to address specific needs within Uganda’s socio-economic landscape.
The collaboration with EDUSERV Agency Ltd will facilitate international internships and apprenticeships for MUBS students in Europe and North America, focusing on fields such as agriculture, hospitality, vocational education, and nursing.
“This global exposure will not only enhance the professional development of our students but also introduce innovative ideas and practices to Uganda, contributing to our economic growth,” said a MUBS spokesperson.
In partnership with HOGMAU, MUBS aims to build local capacity in Uganda’s hospitality sector, reducing reliance on foreign expatriates.
The partnership will nurture home-grown hospitality managers equipped to lead Uganda’s growing tourism industry.
“Through targeted training programs, we are developing the talent needed to steer our booming tourism sector,” a HOGMAU representative commented.
VOCCENT Inc will integrate its multilingual language learning platform into the MUBS curriculum, enabling students to acquire languages critical for global business.
“This initiative will significantly increase the employability of our graduates in international markets and bolster Uganda’s global trade relations,” noted the MUBS spokesperson.
The partnership with the ECASA Group of Consultants introduces the ECASA Modern Swahili Teaching and Training Initiative (EMOSI) at MUBS, promoting Kiswahili as a vital language for business in the East, Central, and Southern African regions.
This initiative is expected to align with regional integration goals and strengthen Uganda’s position in the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
“These partnerships are strategically aligned with Uganda’s Vision 2040,” said MUBS spokesperson, highlighting that they address critical skills gaps, particularly in the hospitality industry.
The MUBS-Directorate of Industrial Training (DIT) collaboration will further support these efforts by ISO-certifying partner organizations, ensuring that the skills and qualifications acquired by MUBS students are globally recognised.
The launch event, held at Nob View Hotel in Ntinda, Kampala, provided a platform for stakeholders to showcase the opportunities created by these partnerships and discuss their potential impact on Uganda’s socio-economic development.
