The Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda (ICPAU) is introducing the Woman Accountant of the Year Award as part of its Accountancy Service Awards (ASA) to celebrate the exceptional contributions of female accountants in their organizations and communities.

"Traditionally, accountancy has been a male-dominated profession, but this has changed significantly," said Derick Nkajja, the chief executive officer of ICPAU.

"Women are increasingly taking on leadership roles and making substantial contributions to the accounting profession, making it essential to recognize their achievements."

The ASA is a prestigious annual event that honors individuals and entities for their outstanding contributions to the advancement of the accountancy profession in Uganda and beyond.

The 2024 ASA will feature nine categories:

1. ICPAU Gold Service Award

2. CPA of the Year Award

3. Young Accountant of the Year Award

4. Woman Accountant of the Year Award

5. Finance Team of the Year Award

6. Accounting Firm of the Year Award

7. Regional Members Network of the Year Award

8. Institutional Partner of the Year Award

9. Unique Humanitarian Award

The public can nominate candidates for the Unique Humanitarian Award, while ICPAU students can submit nominations for the Finance Team of the Year, Regional Members Network of the Year, Institutional Partner of the Year, and Unique Humanitarian Award.

ICPAU members can nominate candidates across all categories. Nominations are open until 17 August 2024.

The Accountancy Service Awards evolve annually. The ICPAU Council's Members Services Committee reviews and adjusts the award categories to recognize and reward distinguished service by both accountants and non-accountants.

The 2024 ASA will be presented on 6 September 2024 at the Imperial Resort Beach Hotel, Entebbe, during the 29th ICPAU Annual Seminar. Established in 2015, the awards are organized by ICPAU.
