Flooded River Tangi cuts off West Nile
A section of the Olwiyo-Pakwach Road near Pakwach Bridge has been closed to traffic after River Tangi burst its banks, causing flooding in the area.
Mr Allan Ssempebwa, the spokesperson of the Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA), warned motorists to avoid the area.
"The section of the road near Pakwach Bridge is currently closed to traffic due to flooding," Ssempebwa said. "We urge all motorists to desist from crossing flooded areas. It's not worth the risk."
Ssempebwa advised drivers to seek alternative routes, emphasizing the importance of safety.
"We understand the inconvenience this may cause, but we cannot compromise on safety. The flooding has made the road impassable, and we must prioritise the safety of all road users."
The closure of the road has caused disruptions to traffic flow, with motorists advised to exercise caution and patience.
"We will work to restore the road to safety as soon as possible," Ssempebwa assured. "In the meantime, let's prioritize safety and avoid taking unnecessary risks."
The Olwiyo section of the highway, the gateway to West Nile eastern DR Congo and South Sudan, is prone to flooding during the rains.
The road has often been cut off with water weeds sometimes blamed for flooding. But recently, UNRA has been dredging the area frequently, leaving the waters clearer.
