Police in a joint operation with the UPDF have foiled a protest against power distributor, Umeme Limited in Kabala.

The protest started after residents of Kabale lost patience over continued power outages in the district .

On Friday,  police and the army deployed heavily around Kabale town to deter locals from marching to Umeme offices to show discontent with the power distributor.

Kigezi police spokesperson, Elly Maate said they wouldnt  not allow anyone to demonstrate.

He added that whoever that thinks that the protest will bring solutions to the power outage problem, should forget.

Maate further thought that since Umeme has had  many engagements with stakeholders over the matter.

“I am still condemning whichever person that thinks that a protest will be a solution for us to have stable power in Kabale. It will not help us. Sitting together on a  round table with the office responsible is the way to go,” Maate noted.

Police remains deployed in Kabale town.
