Youth climate action fund winners announced
The Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) has announced the winners of Bloomberg Philanthropies' Youth Climate Action Fund.
This comes as the Lord Mayor, Erias Lukwago joined the partnership with Bloomberg Philanthropies’ Youth Climate Action Fund on April 10.
The innovative program which will be implemented and supervised by the Lord Mayor's office in collaboration with consulting firm, Astute Strategists, will support selected winners who have demonstrated exceptional passion and creativity in addressing climate challenges in their communities.
The winners are young people aged between 18 and 24, and will each receive $4,000 (about Shs14.9 million) to support their innovative climate change projects.
Commenting about the announcement of the winners, the team leader, Ismael Kigudde said the program will help the winners strengthen their efforts towards solving local climate problems.
“The young people have a golden opportunity to build resilient communities against global warming and climate change” Kigudde said.
He added that the Mayor's office will work with Bloomberg Philanthropy to provide mentorship and resources to ensure the winners' projects are successful.
According to Astute, the winners were selected after a rigorous application process in which KCCA received a total of 31 applications from all the divisions in Kampala.
