Emyooga empowers Kampala dwellers
Beneficiaries of Busega market fresh food vendors an Emyooga sacco have expressed their gratitude for the initiative, highlighting its significant role in improving their incomes and enhancing their capacity to supply food both locally and beyond their communities.
This as their net savings grow to shs 35.8 million with 81 members.
Mary Kasana, a sacco member and mother of five explains how she is able to earn shs 250000 daily from supplying food in schools.
" From Emyooga fund, I started my own business, I supply food in schools, I employ seven people. Everyday I invest around shs 500,000-700,000 and I get 250,000 as profit of which 200,000 goes to my saving," Kasana said.
One of the young beneficiaries is Dirisa Ssenkungu, he says he had nowhere to start from until he got a loan from the sacco.
"I was poor and had plans of going abroad but didn't have money, I got a free loan from the sacco members which I paid back without pressure. When I finally went abroad, I got money and came back to start working on my own in this market," Ssenkungu said.
Most members of the sacco pride in building their own houses as enabled by the seed capital provided in 2021.
The sacco has cumulative savings of shs 82.9 million , net savings of shs35.8 million , cumulative loans of 79.2 million, net loan of shs42.7 million and member shares of 570000.
