The Archbishop of Kampala, Paul Ssemogerere has voicedconcern over the severe hunger crisis in Karamoja, a region where many are facing starvation despite Uganda's overall abundance of food.

The Archbishop urged the government to take immediate action to ensure that food reaches those in desperate need.

This was highlighted during the Ssabasumba annual appeal fund official mass at the Catholic shrine in Namugongo on Sunday.

"This country is good, it has good and enough food, no one starves. But it is surprising and embarrassing to be having enough food in some parts of the country yet in Karamoja people are dying of hunger. Government should take action and find ways of sending food to thoe people because we have enough food," Ssemogerere said.

While celebrating the holy mass at the Catholic shrine in Namugongo, Paul Ssemogerere, the Archbishop of Kampala Archdiocese officiated the launch of the Ssaabasumba annual appeal fund (SAAFU) in Wakiso vitariate aiming at improving the home of the needy in Nalukolongo.

In the same spirit, the Archbishop urged Catholics countrywide to embrace the idea of fundraising 2000 each a year to develop the diocese and the Catholic church as whole.

Edward Kanyike, the chairperson of Saafu project in Kampala archdiocese, revealed that the project requires shs 800M of which half of it will be spent on renovating Nalukolongo needy's home which accommodates less privileged people.

The Kampala archdiocese set a target of Shs four billion to be fundraised with each catholic paying shs 2000 a year to help upgrade and develop the church.
