EC's Byabakama calls stakeholders to promote peaceful elections
The chairperson of the Electoral Commission in Uganda Justice Simon Byabakama has tasked electoral stakeholders and political players to preach peace, unity and tolerance of divergent views come the electoral season.
Speaking during the national stakeholders’ workshop on demarcation of electoral areas and re-organization of polling stations, Byabakama urged all stakeholders to play a proactive role in ensuring peaceful and credible elections.

“A credible electoral process is largely a multi-stakeholder responsibility. All stakeholders should therefore take a keen interest in the processes and commit to ensuring an enabling environment that enhances participation at all levels," Byabakama said.
He called on stakeholders to mobilize, sensitize, inform, and update their communities about their responsibilities in the upcoming elections.
Justice Byabakama highlighted the importance of promoting peace and unity.
“While interacting with the public regarding electoral matters, you should preach peace, unity, tolerance, respect for divergent views, and acceptance of the outcome or resort to peaceful resolution of emerging electoral-related conflicts through the commission or the courts of law.”
He stressed that these efforts are crucial for maintaining a harmonious electoral process.
The workshop covered phases in the demarcation and reorganization of polling stations, providing stakeholders with detailed insights into these critical activities.
