The leader of the National Unity Platform (NUP), Robert Kyagulanyi, alias Bobi Wine, has lauded Ugandan creatives for their active participation in protests against corruption and misrule.

In a statement, Kyagulanyi praised the efforts of singers, comedians, media personalities, cartoonists, and photographers for amplifying the voices of the people.

"I want to salute the creatives who have joined fellow Ugandans in speaking out, mobilizing, and taking part in protests against corruption and misrule," said Kyagulanyi.

"When society raises us up and gives us a platform, the least we can do in return is to amplify their voices on issues that affect them."

Kyagulanyi highlighted the recent arrests of several creatives, including Faiza Fabz, Sammy Okanya, Beewol, and Reign, who were detained for participating in civic duties. He expressed concern over the continued detention of Sammy Okanya at the Central Police Station (CPS) beyond the mandatory 48 hours, stating that lawyers have been denied access to him and he is still in pain following the violence he endured.

"Our human rights team was finally able to access him briefly, and he is of strong spirit," Kyagulanyi added.

The police have reported that a total of 104 people have been arrested so far during this week's anti-corruption protests in Kampala.

The demonstrations kicked off on Tuesday, with a section of youth and activists attempting to march to Parliament in protest against the "escalating" corruption at the institution and in the country.

On Friday, police spokesperson Rusoke Kituuma stated that out of the 104 arrested, 100 have already been taken to court for various nuisance and traffic regulation violations.

He noted that 13 of the arrested individuals had prior criminal charges.

Kituuma said that 9 people were arrested on Tuesday, while the largest number, 75, was arrested on Wednesday.
