'We should use an example of Kenya, don’t be violent, don’t allow anyone to tell you to be violent but I want you to know that its your right to protest.'

The National Unity Platform principal, Robert Kyagulanyi, has rallied the people of Ntungamo District to peacefully protest for their rights so that the rightful message can reach the current government.

Mr Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, was speaking at Standard College market grounds in Ntungamo town on Thursday where he addressed his party's faithful.

He was in the company of NUP Secretary General David Lewis Lubongoya, Mityana Municipality MP Francis Zaake and Leader of the Opposition in Parliament Joel Ssenyonyi.

On arrival in Ntungamo town, Kyagulanyi an his team held a procession which took close to one-and-a-half hours and grounded transport on the Mbarara-Kabale highway.

Like in Rukungiri, NUP team moved through the town without any interruptions from police. Later they headed to Standard College market grounds to address the masses.

As Kyagulanyi was presented with a stool and a stick as a sign of leadership before he could take the rostrum.

He rallied the masses that they should borrow an example from Kenya where the youth protested for their rights.

He adds that people should not allow any one to force them to be violent but rather do a peaceful protest to fight for their rights adding that they have do that a way to pass a message.

“I want to call on you the people of Ntungamo that when you see fire coming from Kampala, join from this side," he said.

"I want to request the youth from here, we should use an example of Kenya, don’t be violent, don’t allow anyone to tell you to be violent but I want you to know that its your right to protest. I emphasize that it’s your right to protest if you are protesting peacefully."

Mr Kyagulanyi said NUP is non-violent, adding that they want to be leaders while voters will be the bosses.

“For us we don’t want power but what we want is leadership. We want to be your leaders when you are our bosses," he said.

NUP chief mobiliser Fred Nyanzi told police they were tired of teargas. He said they have secured some aspirants 2026 general elections but that they were being intimidated by the state apparatus.

After the rally at standard college market grounds, the team headed for a radio talk show at Rubaare radio station.

Tomorrow, Bobi Wine and his NUP team head to Isingiro District.
