Shs20bn modern tourism institute in Jinja takes shape

Construction of a modern shs19 billion facility that will house the Uganda Hotel and Tourism Training Institute (UHTTI) ‘s centre of excellence for hospitality and tourism in Jinja has reached 58%, the contractor has said.

Enock Yiga, the site engineer from CRJE East Africa Limited said having started work in October last year, they are on course to complete the project within the given time frame.

“The entire facility will have a classroom block, administration block and a multipurpose hall with a kitchen and washroom. There will be 17 classroom, each accommodating 30 students, library accommodating 90 students and a computer lab accommodating 90 students,” Yiga said.

The site engineer said the block will also have 17 offices and two mock hotel rooms for students.

Construction of the institute, together with the Crested Crane Hotel, both in Jinja is funded by the World Bank under the Competitive Enterprise Development Project(CEDP).

Daniel Kazungu, the UHTTI spokesperson said the facility will be a gamechanger in the East African region.

“The government of Uganda together with the World Bank have set out to establish the Uganda Hotel and Tourism Training Institute as a centre of excellence for hotel and hospitality training and this involves upgrading the institute. The modern institute will train hospitality students so that Uganda dominates the hospitality industry by improving the skills of our students,” Kazungu said.
