Iteso cultural leader asks subjects to make use of census extension to be counted
Papa Paul Sande Emolot.

The cultural leader of Iteso  institution, Papa Paul Sande Emolot has appealed to his subjects in Tororo to spare the census extension period  to stay home for enumeration.

" You know the problem we been facing in this district. We been marginalized because of our numbers. Please I appeal to each and every body whether you're in Tororo county or west Budama, even if you don't speak the language be counted as an Itesot. It's about our numbers that will determine the national cake," Papa Sande said.

According to the cultural leader, the exercise will help so much in bridging the gape in service delivery his people been receiving from government.

Papa Emolot's massage comes at time as most enumerators in Tororo district fail to realize the targeted number of people they supposed to enumerate per day due to absence of household heads in respective homes.

This is coupled by bad weather.

Of the targeted 15 households per day, most enumerators only ends up counting  between 6 and  7 households only.

Patience Nyachwo, an enumerator recently assigned to conduct census enumeration in Kidera East village, Rubongi sub county is among those who have battled to achieve the target.

Nyachwo was expected to enumerate 82 households before closure of census business but by May, 20, she  had only covered about 58 households.

" You can move to about four homes but only get children who can't give you information. Up to midday, you find people still in their gardens and by the time they get back to their homes, weather also becomes harsh, so I end up only working on about 3 to 4 homes at times," Nyachwo revealed

Banner Nashibudu, the district census commissioner for Tororo asked locals to participate in the exercise.

" I appeal to the people  to adhere to the exercise by giving my enumerators time. The questions are simple, please spare few minutes for them," Nashibudu said.
