In collaborated efforts to combat one of Uganda's deadliest diseases, NBS Television has partnered with the Rotary Club of Kisaasi-Kyanja and Fun Cycling Uganda to host the fourth annual Ride Against Malaria.

The event, which took place at Kitante Primary School yesterday, attracted participants from various backgrounds, all cycling to raise awareness about the ongoing battle against malaria in Uganda.

Uganda ranks as the third-highest contributor to the global malaria burden, with 95% of the country categorized as highly endemic.

According to the World Malaria Report 2022, the nation has an alarming malaria incidence rate of 478 cases per 1,000 people per year.

This translates to a significant loss of life and a considerable strain on healthcare resources.

The Ministry of Health estimates that between 14 and 16 people lose their lives daily due to malaria, with the disease accounting for 40% of outpatient visits, 25% of hospital admissions, and 14% of all hospital deaths.

Dr. Jimmy Opigo from the Malaria Control Program at the Ministry of Health highlighted the critical importance of initiatives like Ride Against Malaria, stating,

"Spreading awareness about malaria's impact on Uganda is key to mobilizing action. It's one of the leading causes of sickness and death in our country, and events like this help keep the fight against malaria at the forefront of public consciousness."

Stuart Luwemba, President-Elect of Rotary Club Kisaasi-Kyanja, echoed Dr. Opigo's sentiment, emphasizing the need for unity in addressing the malaria challenge.

"By coming together through events like Ride Against Malaria, we are sending a powerful message that we are united in our efforts to fight this deadly disease. We believe that through awareness and collective action, we can make a significant difference."

The Ride Against Malaria not only raised awareness but also brought people together to celebrate unity in the face of adversity.

The cycling event demonstrated that when individuals and organizations collaborate, they can create a meaningful impact on the health and well-being of Uganda's population.

The hope is that with continued support from partnerships like NBS Television, Rotary Club Kisaasi-Kyanja, and Fun Cycling Uganda, Uganda can make significant strides in reducing the burden of malaria.
