The Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) Sunday issued a public advisory following reports of partial cave-in of a section of the Kampala-Masaka Highway between Kyengera and Budo Junction.
Mr Allan Ssempebwa, UNRA's spokesperson, urged motorists to exercise caution and seek alternative routes.
"For motorists traveling from Kampala to Masaka, we recommend using Nakawuka Road to Budo Junction or Kitemu to access the Kampala-Masaka Highway. Alternatively, you can take Mityana Road to Buloba-Nsangi to access the highway," Ssempebwa advised.
"For motorists heading from Masaka to Kampala, we suggest using Kitemu or Budo to Nakawuka to access Kampala. Alternatively, you can take Nsangi-Buloba-Mutyaba Road to access Kampala," he added.
Ssempebwa has emphasized the importance of patience and cooperation as Traffic Police and UNRA teams work to assess the damage and implement necessary measures. He urged the public to adhere to traffic guidelines and exercise caution while navigating the affected area.
This incident is not an isolated occurrence, with previous cave-in along the Masaka Road, notably the Katonga Sink In. UNRA has attributed the recurring damage to changing weather patterns.
