Kalungu boss shakes up executive, says no room for negligence

Kalungu District chairperson Kamaadi Nyombi Mukiibi orchestrated a significant shake-up within his executive, suspending key ministers and stamping in fresh faces to steer the ship.

The sweeping changes, unveiled during a council meeting at the district headquarters on Friday, saw the ousting of secretary for Agriculture Maria Namuli and secretary for education and health Sseremba Kizitto Wavamunno, both of members of the National Unit Platform.

In a bid to inject new energy and direction into the district's governance, Chairman Nyombi replaced the outgoing ministers with independent youthful vigour, appointing district youth councillor Sharifah Nakanwagi and Ssekalema Vicent of Kyamulibwa Town Council to key positions.

Sharifah Nakanwagi is now the secretary for Education and Vincent Ssekalema as secretary for production, finance planning and administration.

Nyombi also appointed himself as the secretary for gender, and others including Gerald Kiguddu as vice chairperson and secretary for health, Charles Kalyango Mwanje as secretary for works and technical services.

The move, however, was not without its share of dissent, as the dismissed ministers reportedly expressed their disapproval with visible discontent.

Emphasizing a no-nonsense approach to governance, Kamaadi wasted no time in asserting his authority, warning the newly appointed officials against complacency or dereliction of duty.

"Those given responsibilities must perform," he declared adamantly, "or face the consequences of their actions." The stern warning underscored Kamaad's commitment to ensuring efficiency and accountability within the district's administration.

Furthermore, Kamaadi unveiled a revamped the district land board committee, appointing Elisha Mugambi as the chairperson to lead the charge in managing land-related affairs within the district a move aimed at addressing longstanding issues and streamlining processes.

“The committee will have members including Abdu Muwonge, Christine Kizza, Sarah Nakalema and Ali Mwesigwa,” he said

Amidst the administrative upheaval, the council meeting also provided a platform for the unveiling of Kalungu District's budget for the financial year 2024-2025, totalling Shs38 billion.

With a clear focus on education and health, the budget reflects the district's commitment to improving the welfare and development of its residents.

As newly appointed officials took their oaths and outlined their plans for the future, the stage was set for a new chapter in Kalungu District's governance.

“We are seeing our district is receiving many early retirements in the education sector which will affect our district in future, so I am going to sit with headteachers and teachers to know where the problem is”. Sharifah, the new secretary for education, said.

Charles Kalyango Mwanje the secretary for works and technical services said he would ensure that we all the money on account are used in the two months left to end of financial year.

"We cannot experience reverses yet we have a lot of roads in a bad situation in Kalungu,” he said.
