Ex-Tanzanian President, Kikwete advocates for single East African market

Former Tanzanian President Jakaya Kikwete has urged the East African community to pursue closer integration through the establishment of a unified market under common fiscal and monetary policies.

Kikwete made these remarks during the inaugural Guild Leaders' Summit held at Makerere University yesterday.
"The integration of the East African community has long been hampered by a lack of common interests, impacting regional trade and investment," stated Kikwete.
Echoing Kikwete's sentiments, Uganda's Vice President Jessica Alupo emphasized Uganda's commitment to the federation of East Africa as a means to expand its market and foster economic growth across the region.
"Amidst the hindrances, Uganda is working on the federation of East Africa to expand her small market to benefit East African economies," remarked Vice President Alupo
Addressing guild leaders from universities across East Africa, former Prime Minister Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda stressed the key role of young student leaders in advancing the agenda of deepening cooperation within the East African region.
"As student leaders, you have the opportunity to champion the cause of deepening East Africa's cooperation," affirmed Dr. Rugunda.
