Zambian legend Bwalya to head panel vetting Uganda national team coach candidates

FUFA have appointed Zambian legend Kalusha Bwalya to head a five- man technical  panel that will have the role of vetting suitable candidates for the Uganda Cranes  coaching job.

In July, Moses Basena and Fred Kajoba were appointed as Cranes  interim coaches replacing Serbian international Milutin Sredjovic whose contract was terminated over $54,000 salary arrears.

Adressing the weekly press conference on Wednesday FUFA CEO Edgar Watson said that they have opened for applications for the job of the Uganda national team.

"The FUFA emergency committee appointed a panel to be led by Kalusha Bwalya that will technically assess those who apply and come up with a lost of eligible candidates,"Watson said.

He said the panel would have a representative from the National Council of Sports, FUFA technical director and one  from the association of football coaches in the country among others.

Asked why they had chosen Bwalya, the FUFA CEO explained that the former Zambian national player has served the game of football at the highest levels on the continent and  world at large.

"He was a unique footballer on and off the pitch, coached the national team and also a  president of the Football Association,"Edgar said.

He argued that the eight most capped Zambian footballer is considered neutral in the Ugandan football set up and had to be chosen.

On the qualifications for the candidates for the national team job, Edgar Watson said they expect candidates with top most qualifications.

"They should have a vast experience in coaching national teams and African football, "he noted.

The FUFA CEO said that the panel would then list successful candidates whose names would be discussed between the football governing body and government.

"The FUFA Executive Committee will then choose the best candidate who will be announced the Cranes national team coach by November 15,2017,"Edgar said.

Serbian international Milutin Sredjovic Micho became the eighth coach for Uganda's national team coach after scooping the job in 2013 after being sacked by Rwanda.

Micho's contract was terminated mid this year .
