Over Shs20 million was collected in cash for the Thanksgiving, including Shs10 million from the prime minister.

As a move to give thanks to God for a second chance, Dr Celestine Barigye held a Thanksgiving ceremony on Easter Monday in Bushenyi where family, friend’s well-wishers gathered.

In her message read by Local government minister Raphael Magyezi, Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja praised Dr Barigye for the integrity and good track record of professionalism.

“I want to thank God for your health and life, Dr Barigye, and thank you for your professionalism and integrity as a leader and a doctor and other health workers should emulate Dr Barigye,” Nabbanja said in the message.

The West Ankole Diocese Bishop, Johnson Twinomujuni, like other speakers, noted that “the time after Dr Barigye fell sick was a difficult time, but we thank God he is recovering steadily.”

Twinomujuni added that “health workers who ask for money from patients in public facility frustrate patients". He urged the government and the Ministry of health to carryout thorough investigations.

Dr Barigye thanked God for his recovery noting that “I thank God for giving me a second chance to live and serve that’s why I thank Him.”

Over Shs20 million was collected in cash for the Thanksgiving, including Shs10 million from the prime minister.

All the proceeds will go towards the completion of Bunyarigi Centre Catholic Church in Ishak-Bushenyi Municipality where Dr Barigye prays from.

Different dignitaries, including the Archbishop of Mbarara Archdiocese, His Grace Lambert Beinomugisha, former Health minister Dr Richard Nduhuura, members of parliament, among others, graced the occasion.
