Nandutu to Museveni: I’m sorry I let you down

Former State Minister for Karamoja Affairs Agnes Nandutu has apologised to President Museveni for her mistakes while she held her ministerial job.

She was addressing journalists on Friday at Parliament.

Nandutu, a former journalist, was among the ministers dropped by Museveni in the cabinet reshuffle announced on Thursday. She was replaced with Florence Nambozo Wamala.

Speaking to journalists, the Bududa District Woman MP, remarked that despite losing her ministerial job, she remains indebted to President Museveni, and apologised to him where she could have gone wrong.

“Where I have gone wrong, I ask the President to forgive me,” Nandutu said.

She thanked Museveni for having entrusted her with the MInisterial job when few believed in her.

“While many people saw nothing in me, President Museveni saw something in me and appointed me to be one of 100 most important persons in this country and I have done my best to serve this country,”

It should be noted that Nandutu’s tenure as a minister was a rocky one after she faced charges of corruption and abuse of office, in relation to her involvement in diverting iron sheets meant for the vulnerable in Karamoja.

On Friday, she said that had it not been because of challenges she has been through, she would have served better.

“Despite the challenges that were there, I would have served even better, but because of the challenges that were there, I did little.”

She added that her sacking from the cabinet will not deter her from supporting government business on the floor of the Parliament.

“I will serve NRM, I will serve my President as the Woman Member of Parliament. It doesn’t mean that when you leave the field and go to the government, you don’t remain part of the team,” Nandutu said.
