Two killed in revenge attack between Madi, Acholi in Apaa

Two people have been killed in renewed tribal clashes between the Acholi community in Apaa township and Madi people from neighboring Adjumani district.

The renewed clashes started on Sunday, February, 18 at Kamjdin village, Kalachut Parish , Pekele sub county in Adjumani district  when a group of about 30 Madi men armed with bows and arrows, pangas,hoes and knives attacked the home of  one Akekwa.

The attackers torched down a number of huts and arrested Akekwa who was undressed and tied on a tree before proceeding to his neighbours they burnt 16 huts and all property destroyed in the fire.

In the attack, one person was shot in the buttocks with a bow and arrow.

In a revenge attacked by the Acholi, they attacked the Madi Community of Eloku Village in Kalachut Sub County Adjumani district and killed two people on Monday morning.

The deceased have been identified as Taku and Drani Were.

The UPDF fourth division spokesperson, Capt Ahmad Hassan Kato said in the wake of the renewed attacks, the UPDF has made reinforcement in the area.

“We have made some reinforcement in the area North of Pabbo to beef up on security in the affected area but to also monitor the situation and to possibly avert any further violence and to restore normalcy and calmness,” Capt Kato said.

He appealed to both communities to desist from violence but also cooperate with security in providing timely and accurate information to enable the UPDF provide security and ease tension in the area.

“We shall continue to provide security in the general areas of Apaa until the matter is resolved by the government.”
