He urged General Muhoozi to pursue a democratic path if he aspires to hold office, rather than relying solely on his father's legacy.

KAMPALA | Internal Affairs minister Kahinda Otafire has urged Ugandans to resist succumbing to succession politics ahead of the 2026 polls.

In an exclusive interview, he emphasized the importance of voters critically assessing the qualifications and track record of candidates, rather than being swayed by charismatic appeal or familial ties.

"We must vote for leaders capable of addressing Uganda's problems, not just those riding on legacy or family connections," declared Major Otafire.

Major General Otafire specifically addressed rumors surrounding first son General Muhoozi Kainerugaba's potential entry into elective positions.

He urged General Muhoozi to pursue a democratic path if he aspires to hold office, rather than relying solely on his father's legacy.

"General Muhoozi should contest democratically if he seeks elective office," asserted Major General Otafire.

These remarks from Major General Otafire come amidst heightened discussions surrounding succession and leadership transition in Uganda.
