The Rotary Club of Kampala North has handed over essential medical equipment worth Shs 88 millionĀ  to Namalembe Health Center II in Bugweri district.

This donation arrives at a critical time for the health facility, as it is the only medical center serving the area.

The center provides comprehensive healthcare services, including inpatient, outpatient, maternity, and pediatrics services.

However, when the situation becomes untenable, patients are referred to Iganga Referral Hospital, which is over 10 km away.

Sadly, this distance has resulted in loss of lives, particularly among expectant mothers who fail to reach the hospital on time, leading to the loss of both mother and child.

Recognizing the urgent need to address this healthcare crisis, the Rotary Club, in collaboration with the Del Mar Club, has provided medical supplies to alleviate the situation.

The donated items include a glucometer contour, blood bank, refrigerators, hematology analyzer, vortex meters, centrifuges, and other necessary equipment.

The vicar of the Anglican church, which oversees the health facility, expressed deep gratitude for the timely assistance.

He emphasized the importance of a healthy population in contributing to the nation's development, paying tithes, raising children, and ensuring the well-being of future generations.

Although the government cannot provide everything, the vicar acknowledged the community's effort to improve healthcare services.

Despite the poor state of the maternity wing, a recent mother at the center has given birth to a baby boy.

She commended the medical team for their dedicated service and expressed optimism that with newer beds and a wider ward, the overall health outlook for expectant mothers would improve significantly.

The village chairman echoed the sentiment that a healthy population is crucial for nation-building.
