Masindi district extends relief to hailstorm victims

The Office of the Prime Minister took swift action by delivering a substantial aid package to support the affected families.

The relief items, including 13,000kg of Posho, 6,500kg of beans, and 300 tarpaulins, were designated for distribution in the hailstorm-ravaged sub-counties of Miirya, Pakanyi, Bwijanga, Kiruli, Kimengo, and Kijunjubwa.

During the handover ceremony, Emmy Ngabirano, the Resident District Commissioner Masindi, stressed the importance of accountability, urging Sub County Chiefs and LC3 Chairpersons to ensure the items reach the right recipients.

Ngabirano emphasized, "With OPM, it's purely accountability; we don't want you to get us into trouble."

Ngabirano also cautioned those displaced by recent floods against reoccupying their former areas, citing potential dangers. "When you encroach on nature, it will at one time reclaim its area," he warned

Pamela Nyakato, Secretary for Finance Masindi district echoed the call for accountability while emphasizing a focus on vulnerable families.

"We must prioritize family-headed households, the vulnerable, disabled, and then consider men later. This is what responsible governance entails – ensuring relief reaches the targeted beneficiaries," Nyakato asserted.

Musa K Kyamiza, Principal Assistant Secretary in the office of the CAO, urged beneficiaries to consider special interest groups and adhere to distribution guidelines.

"Women, disabled, and women-managed families should be most considered; men can come next because they can work," Kyamiza noted.

In expressions of gratitude, James Mudede and Mansur Bwohe, Chairpersons LC3 for Bwijanga and Kijunjubwa sub-counties, respectively, applauded Masindi district leadership and OPM for fulfilling their pledge to support hailstorm-affected persons.
