Robert Kyagulanyi, the leader of the National Unity Platform(NUP), has expressed deep disappointment and frustration regarding the denial of mourning rights for fellow leaders.

Kyagulanyi's comments shed light on a troubling situation where leaders such as Dr. Kizza Besigye and Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago, both prominent members of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), have been placed under house arrest during this mourning period.

Cecilia Ogwal, a highly respected figure across party lines in both the opposition and ruling party, passed away from cancer last week in India at the age of 77.

Cecilia Ogwal will be laid to rest on January 27, 2024, at her ancestral home in Dog Gudu Cell, Alito Town Council, Kole district.

In a statement, Kyagulanyi emphasized her courage, integrity, and leadership as qualities that inspired Ugandans.

"It is extremely unfortunate that her fellow leaders have been denied the opportunity to stand with her family during this difficult time as the nation mourns the late Hon. Cecilia Ogwal," he said.

He fondly recalled their time together in the 10th Parliament, highlighting her nurturing nature and wise counsel.

Kyagulanyi expressed his dismay that while President Museveni, the long-standing leader of the country, attended the mourning proceedings at Parliament, Dr. Kizza Besigye, a close friend and comrade of the late Ogwal, was confined to his residence.

"How shameless can Museveni be? How could he comfortably go to Parliament to mourn Cecilia Ogwal, but deny her longtime friend and comrade, Dr. Besigye, the opportunity to pay his last respects even beyond his gate?" he wondered.

Kyagulanyi extended heartfelt condolences and sympathies to the family, friends, colleagues, and constituents of the late Ogwal.

He called for unity during this difficult time and prayed for comfort and solace for those grieving the loss.
