The Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among has praised deceased Dokolo Woman MP, Cecilia Ogwal for always putting Uganda first while she served the country.

Ogwal, an outspoken legislator passed away last week in India where she had been receiving treatment.

Leading Parliament in paying tribute to the deceased legislator, Among described her as an accomplished Member of Parliament who put her country first in all her deeds.

“She spoke eloquently for all Ugandans and not just for the people of Dokolo, or for her political party, it was about Uganda first and the next would follow,” Among said.

The Speaker also thanked the public for the outpouring tributes, saying Ogwal’s death has manifested a true spirit of goodness and it is an indication that the deceased lived a righteous life which should be emulated by all Ugandans.

“We need to serve humanity with dignity, respect, equality and these are the attributes that Ogwal had in her life. Ogwal was a true christian, she believed in prayer, when she would come to you that let us pray for one minute, she would pray for 30 minutes. She always put God first in whatever she did," the Speaker asserted.

The Speaker further urged the bereaved family to stand strong and further the legacy left behind by Ogwal.

“She was an advocate of a just and a fair society that works for everybody. Atim is un-replaceable icon who will be dearly missed by this House. When I would like to have a balanced debate, I would just look on my left, and I am wondering, how will I be looking on my left? Who is that person that can always come and will not talk politics but would talk for this country?" remarked.

Ogwal’s remains were received on Monday by the Speaker of Parliament, family members and MPs, at Entebbe International Airport.

She is to be laid to rest on January 27, 2024 at her ancestral home in Dog Gudu Cell, Alito Town Council, Kole district.
