There was shock as the body of a missing catechist from Kigezi Diocese in Kabale district was found floating on River Rwabakazi.

Living Aryatwijuka,40, a catechist of Rubira Church of Uganda, was reported missing on Monday,  January, 15, 2024 after being  seen leaving his home on his motorcycle at around 10:00 am

Relatives and concerned residents initiated a search on Tuesday and later discovered  his abandoned motorcycle, church books, and a church money receipt along the Kabale-Mbarara road in Rubira village.

On Saturday evening,the  decomposing body of Aryatwijuka was found trapped in the waters of River Rwabakazi at Kyanamira Bridge.

"Since Monday we have been living in sorrow after the disappearance of the Catechist,," said  Gad Niwamanya,a teacher at Kitags primary school.

Rev Sam Bahati, the parish priest of Kigata COU parish under Kikungiri Archdeaconry, who worked closely with Aryatwijuka said the deceased went  went missing after a staff meeting on Monday.

"It's painful and a pity  that from the people we always preach to,  some of them can do such an act of targeting our life," he says.

Rev Golden Akatuhurira a priest of Kaharo Cou said that "Such an incident has left us in shock and speechless for we have been searching for Aryatwijuka since Monday."

He appealed to such wrongdoers to repent and give their lives to Christ.

In a phone interview,Elly Maate, the Kigezi region police spokesperson confirmed the death of the catechist.

"As police, we registered a case of missing person on January, 16 2024 but unfortunately, his body was found lying in a river."

He said that police visited the scene and the body was taken for postmortem to be conducted adding that at all efforts are  being made to establish circumstances leading to the death.

"The disappearance case which was earlier registered has been substituted with murder."

.He called upon  the public to help in the ongoing investigation.
