Immature fish worth millions destroyed in Kisoro

Security in Kisoro has destroyedĀ  150 kilograms of immature Nile perch fish that was beingĀ  smuggled into the country before apprehended at Kanaba checkpoint in Kisoro District.

The illicit cargo was reduced to ashes in the presence of Deputy RDC Robert Tukamuhebwa and officials from the fisheries department at the district headquarters yesterday evening.

Tukamuhebwa stated that the police are currently investigating to identify the owner of the confiscated fish.

He issued a stern warning to the business community, cautioning against investing in and selling immature fish.

He emphasized that the police, in collaboration with the fish protection unit, will exert maximum effort to apprehend those involved in the trade of immature fish, aiming to curb this illicit activity.

Birungi Denis, the Kisoro District Fisheries representative, expressed concern about the deplorable condition of the impounded fish, emphasizing the potential risk to people's lives.

He vowed to apprehend and take to court anyone found selling immature fish
