OPINION: Who is fooling who?

The opposition boycott is on and it has been on for some time. This is not the first walk out of parliament. The question we must ask and I suggest we all ask is what have these walkouts achieved?

I want to suggest to you that we get involved in doing things that have the known ability to achieve tangible results. What is the point of getting into an aircraft that has no known destination?

Let me break this down for you even more. You must ask for things that can happen. If Samson Kasumba has said he will not leave NBS unless he is dead or fired, what is the point of asking for a Kasumba resignation? What is feasible is asking his employer Kin to fire him of wait for his death. It is that simple.

Who of you really believes that the NRM government will yield to the demands of the opposition? Don’t you listen to Dr. Chris Baryomunsi and understand how the NRM sees this?

Let me say what I know about Mr. Museveni. The son of Amos does not yield to, or take very well being placed under pressure.

I want to remind you of what happened when VAT tax came here. Kampala shop owners closed their shops contesting the tax. He kept quiet until such a time as that when the very shop owners started stealthily entering their own shops to pick supplies. They were clearly no longer able to sustain that boycott. It was then that KCC announced that it was going to recall the trading licences of those who kept their shops closed.

Then there was a boycott of Makerere University lecturers when he eventually asked those who did not like the conditions at the university to hand in both keys of their university houses and their university offices.

What of the doctors strike when government moved on with its work normally as people died? Eventually he asked military doctors to go to Mulago to relieve the pressure. You are either too young or with selected memory when and if you imagine that Mr. Museveni and his NRM government will yield to pressure.

Knowing what I know, this NRM won’t cave in to these demands and I am not suggesting they are illegitimate demands.

I am asking whether what I know and I have placed here, these people in the opposition don’t know.

Do they think that some miracle has happened and that Mr. Museveni will be a leopard that eventually changes its spots at an old age?

I am struggling to find a logical basis to see that this boycott is anything more than politics.

While I am still in that mental struggle the Leader of opposition has now accused the media that covers the boycott he leads.

He is now accusing that media of being bribed to shift the cameras from his boycott. What is strange is that he accused the media in a press conference covered by the very media. Now that is very brave to do and probably only Mr. Mpuga can do that.  I was sure lawyers work with proof and not just hearsay. I hope that has not changed!  What about the leader of the opposition coming to the cameras with proof of those very allegations? I hope the leader of opposition has not started a war with the media…What I know about war with the media is this that only one winner is certain: the media.
