Nambooze rushed to hospital after health deteriorates while in police cell

Mukono Municipality Member of Parliament, Betty Nambooze Bakireke has Saturday been rushed to Kiruddu Hospital in Makindye Division, Kampala in terrible condition.

Nambooze was arrested Thursday at her home in Mukono and held at Jinja Road Police where she interrogated at the Police Special Investigations Unit in Kireka about statements she made in regard to the death of former Arua MP Ibrahim Abiriga on June 08, 2018.

She was released a few hours later only to be rearrested on indefinite detention order and accordingly transferred her to Naggalama this evening for custody.

However, according to her lawyer Erias Lukwago, Nambooze’s health deteriorated and she had to be rushed to hospital for treatment Saturday morning.

“Our sister, Hon Nambooze has just been rushed to Kiruddu Hospital in Makindye Division by the Police authorities as her health condition was deteriorating further,” Lukwago said.

On her initial arrest, Nambooze had secured bond on grounds that she has a medical condition that requires her to be home.

Speaking at MP Abiriga’s home and again at his burial in Arua, President Museveni claimed that the former Arua MP may have been shot dead because of his vocal support for National Resistance Movement (NRM) programs. Abiriga came to national attention as the lead agitator for the lifting of presidential age-limits in the constitution in 2016 that would enable President Museveni to run for the office again. The amendment was passed in 2017.
