Elioda Tumwesigye wins Sheema municipality primaries

The Minister for Science Technology Elioda Tumwesigye yesterday won the Sheema municipality NRM primaries in a very competitive race.

The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) yesterday June 4th successfully concluded its primaries for the flag bearers in the newly created Municipalities.

Tumwesigye got 9371 votes (36.2%) and was declared the official flag bearer by the EC Chairman Dr. Tanga Odoi.

His closest rival Akankwatsa Raymond polled 4596 (17.7%). The race had eight candidates.

Tumwesigye is serving MP for Sheema North and his decision to stand in the newly created municipality stirred legal controversy.

EC Vice chairperson Hon Kigyagi John Alimpa was in both Njeru and Bugiri Municipalities and said the elections were conducted in a free and fair manner.

Elsewhere in Apac, former Minister Akaki Ayum Jovino polled 3036 (60.9%) votes and was declared winner by EC's Hon. Jane Alisemera as the MP flag bearer.

He defeated Ochono Patrick Okello who collected 1827 votes

NJERU MUNICIPALITY

Mayor: Kyazze Yasin

NEBBI MUNICIPALITY

MP: Hasim Sulaiman

SHEEMA MUNICIPALITY

MP: Tumwesigye Elioda

Mayor: Atucungwire Abeĺ Kahara
