Traffic guidelines for Martyrs’ day

Kampala Metropolitan traffic police commander Norman Musinga has rolled out a traffic plan ahead of the martyrs' day celebrations in Namugongo. Musinga said the plan is meant to reduce congestion and ensure security across all the routes and at the different shrines in Namugongo.

There will be no parking for the general public both at the Catholic and Anglican church.

VIPs with vehicles to the Catholic shrine bearing Red stickers will access Namugongo through Kyaliwajjala via Ssemambo road and park at Namugongo boarding primary school.

VIPS with vehicles to the Protestant shrine bearing Red stickers will access the venue through Bweyogerere, Butto road and park at the Protestant Play Ground.

Foreign pilgrims to the Catholic Church with vehicles bearing red stickers will be dropped off at Kyaliwajjala trading center and the vehicles will park at Vienna College school.

Pilgrims from Northern Bypass from areas of Ntinda, Hoima road & Bwaise will park at Hillside nursery and primary school and St. Peter’s S.S Nalya.

Pilgrims from Northern route via Kasangati will park at Kiira town council play ground and Kiira Municipal council gardens.

Pilgrims to the Protestant church will access the venue thru Sseta, Sonde, Bweyogerere + Butto and park at Church Farm & All Sister’s parking.

Pilgrims to the Protestant shrine from Kiira town council can access thru Mamerito road & park as directed by traffic police.

Pilgrims from Eastern route to the Catholic Church will access the venue via Kireka.

From Kyaliwajjala trading center to the venue will be a pedestrian walk way. Pedestrians will keep right, and left will be reserved for VVIPs and emergency vehicles.

As a way to regulate traffic flow, there will be cut off points in the following areas, Nalya Round About, Kireka Trading Center, Kiira Town Council Round About, Bweyogerere Trading Center, Seeta Trading Center & Kyaliwajjala trading center.

Private vehicles, taxis, motor cycles will not be allowed beyond the inner cut off points.

Kireka- Kyaliwajjala road will be a one way for vehicles heading to the venue and ONE WAY from the venue after celebrations.

Parking along the road is prohibited and vehicles abandoned along the designated routes will be towed at the owner’s cost.

Public service buses will be allowed to drop those intending to use public means at Kyaliwajjala and Butto- Namugongo near the Protestant church.

Buses accessing Kyaliwajjala from Kireka will connect back to Kireka via Nalya as the road from Kireka to Kyaliwajjala will be ONE WAY.

All road users are advised to adhere to the above traffic flow guidelines to avoid inconveniences and whoever contravenes with these guidelines will be dealt with in accordance with the Traffic and Road Safety Act 1998.
