Kadaga wants the police, not SGS, to inspect vehicles

The Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga now wants the contract of Swiss vehicle inspection company SGS cancelled and the role of car inspection reverted to the Uganda Police Force.

Speaking during the launch of a campaign to reduce the carnage on the roads, Kadaga distanced the institution she leads from the processes of contracting the private firm insisting the House did not approve of it from the word go.

“I think as a government, we need to give back to the police the role of inspection. These are Ugandans, this is our police so instead of undermining it we need to support it," Kadaga said.

Kadaga’s comments come a few months after the House passed a resolution to cancel the SGS contract following an investigation by the parliamentary committee on Physical Infrastructure.

Padyere County MP Joshua Anywarach told The Nile Post that he supported the speaker's suggestion.

He however called for a more comprehensive approach insisting that the problem should be addressed in all spheres from physical planning to constant watch of vehicle types constantly involved in accidents.
