Bukwo: Police issue arrest warrant for LCV chairman over defilement

Police have issued an arrest warrant for the LC5 chairperson of Bukwo district after he failed to appear at the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) to make statement on allegations of defilement .

The suspect, Moses Chelimo, is wanted on charges of trafficking in persons and aggravated defilement of a secondary school student whom he also allegedly impregnated.

"We continue to actively search for the chairperson of Bukwo district who is being investigated in a case of alleged trafficking in persons and defilement," Police Spokesperson Fred Enanga told the press on October 3.

According to him, Chelimo had been given summons to report to police on September 19, at SIU division in Kireka but he didn’t respond to the summons.

"Because of that, we have processed a warrant of arrest and put up a serious manhunt because these are very lawful processes which are holistic that you can not fail to respond to," Enanga added.

He said that currently police are investigating four other cases of aggravated defilement that occurred in separate jurisdictions across the country.

Amongst them is a double aggravated defilement committed by a one John Bulunga which was reported to police at Lwengo, on September 28, and was arrested together with his mother who is an accomplice.

The other incident took place in Nabilatuk district where the headteacher of Lolachat Seed Secondary School, was detained for allegedly defiling his 15-year-old sister-in-law, a pupil of Lolachat Primary School.

Police said that such incidents clearly reveal the threats and dangers that the girl child still faces by persons who are supposed to be role models.

“Such acts of abuse of the girl victims is a betrayal of trust and exploitation by guardians like teachers, uncles, neighbours and LCs, who instead of protecting the girl children, take advantage of them," Enanga said.
