Twitter targets Gen Muhoozi supporters’ accounts in latest crackdown

Social media platform, Twitter has suspended a number of accounts belonging to supporters of the Commander of Land Forces in the UPDF,Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba.

In the crackdown that occurred overnight, a number of the account holders could not access them on Tuesday morning, prompting many of them to cry foul.

Whereas it is not yet readily known as to why the accounts were suspended, but checking them shows they were suspended for violating the social media platforms rules of engagement.

Suspension

The social media platform says an account might be suspended if it is spammy or just plain fake and “they introduce security risks “for Twitter and for everyone using Twitter.

These types of accounts are against our rules.”

Twitter says that sometimes a real person’s account gets suspended by mistake, and that in those cases they will work with the person to make sure the account is unsuspended.

An account may also be suspended if it has been hacked or compromised.

Twitter says they may suspend it until it can be secured and restored to the account owner in order to reduce potentially malicious activity caused by the compromise.

An account may also be suspended if it has been reported to us as violating rules surrounding abuse

“When an account engages in abusive behavior, like sending threats to others or impersonating other accounts, we may suspend it temporarily or, in some cases, permanently.”

Last month, Gen Muhoozi deliberately deactivated his Twitter account over unclear reasons.

He later revealed he had some decisions to make, prompting him to temporarily deactivate the account.

“Never fear my followers and supporters, I’m back. I had some decisions to make,” Gen Muhoozi tweeted after reactivating his account.
