Sheebah: "Mwenda did not put any finger on me"

Musician Sheebah Karungi has reportedly exonerated journalist turned political analyst Andrew Mwenda over rape allegations.

According to police spokesperson Fred Enanga, the The Directorate of Criminal Investigations launched inquiries into the alleged indecent of assault against Sheebah after she formally made her complaint at CID headquarters on Tuesday.

Enanga said that during the interactions, Sheebah revealed details and the individual who was involved and the related circumstances.

"In her complaint she clearly mentions the suspect and refutes the ongoing speculation in sections of the media that it was Andrew Mwenda," Enanga said.

Enanga said that a team of detectives has commenced investigations into the matter to ensure justice for the victim.

The police mouthpiece thanked Sheebah for taking the courage to report the matter and assured the public that the Uganda Police takes matters of gender based violence seriously.

The "Nkwatako" singer had initially sent shivers in the camp of Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba when at the backdrop of the general’s birthday bashes claimed that one of the "big people in government" had used his security detail to attempt to rape her.

She claimed that she was taking a power nap in her car while waiting on her opportunity to go on stage, when her car doors swung. Standing before her was a big man who started “acting inappropriately” towards her.

In her allegations, Sheebah did not mention names, but social media armies poured in from different battalions and insinuated that seasoned journalist and prominent member of Lt Gen Muhoozi Birthday parties’ committee Mwenda could have been the subject in question.

Mwenda rushed to his defence in the only way he knows, penning a long article in which he wondered about the motive behind Sheebah’s involuntary claims.
