Bamugemereire insists Lands Minister Must Appear Before Commission
The Land Inquiry Commission that is chaired by Lady Justice Catherine Bamugemereire has insisted that Lands minister Betty Amongi must appear before the commission.
Elbert Benkya, the lead counsel for the commission, says Amongi wrote to the commission to explain her first absence because she was travelling on official duty.

However, Bamugemereire has summoned Amongi, “"We want the land minister Betty Amongi to appear before this commission in person. She has to answer some issues concerning land."
Benkya says the commission has now summoned Amongi to appear before the commission again.
In 2017 as lands minister Amongi fronted a government proposal that government be allowed to take possession of land needed for public works if the matter of compensation was still unresolved in court. Government argued that this was necessary to prevent delays in carrying out projects of national development.
In making her case, Amongi claimed that the government had up to 2017 lost up to 97million dollars to contractors due to delays in construction works.
