Slow business as Rwanda opens Katuna border

Editor's Choice

The government of Rwanda has finally re-opened the Gatuna/Katuna border amidst slow traffic and Monday morning rain.

Despite expected traffic, there was little to no traffic building up at Katuna border by press time.

The only traffic that could be seen was of Ugandan officials who were trying to get a stuck truck out of the mud.

No government official from either side of the border came to the border to officiate the official reopening as well.

Construction activities are still ongoing on the Ugandan side of the border, and this is expected to slow down traffic, once it gets busier.

The border has been closed for three years now, having been closed in February 2019 and the reopening is seen as a step closer to normalizing ties between the two neighbouring countries.
