Police in Mbarara have recovered the gun used in the gruesome murder of Corporal Richard Agaba, the Officer in Charge of Ruharo Police Post.

Agaba was on Wednesday morning shot dead by unknown assailants who trapped him into responding to a distress call, only to ambush him, killing and taking off with his gun.

However, on Friday, the gun a semi-automatic rifle was recovered in a banana plantation, 50 metres away from the crime scene.

“Police was alerted by Vincent Ngabirano, the owner of the garden after one of his casual workers, Agnes Namugumya saw it while she was working in the garden,” said Rwizi region police spokesperson, Samson Kasasira.

“Police headed by Mbarara DPC and a team of detectives proceeded to the scene and recovered the gun SAR number 2691890 with a cartridge stuck in the chamber and has been taken as an exhibit pending ballistic tests and fingerprinting lifting.”

According to police, the suspects behind the shooting are yet to be arrested but the hunt for them is still ongoing.
