NRM warns of violence ahead of Jinja East polls

The NRM has claimed that the opposition is planning to disrupt polls in Jinja East scheduled for tomorrow (March 15).

In a statement signed by Rogers Mulindwa, a communication officer at NRM, the party claimed that they have received credible information to this effect.

"The launch of their mission was on Tuesday afternoon when a group of young people, some dressed in FDC T-shirts hit and smashed the screens of our official yellow mini buses (coasters) ferrying members to the rally venue.

Some of our members escaped with injuries by broken glasses and the flying stones," the statement reads in part.

The Nile Post understands that NRM has officially reported to police the nasty incident.

"The drivers Odokonyero Francis (AUX 712X) and Katushabe Patrick (AUX 036Q) recorded their statements at Jinja Central Police Station this morning. The injured members are already on treatment," the statement read.

The statement called upon party members and the public to be vigilant in identifying and reporting any individual(s) engaging in acts that may destabilise the electoral process.

Addressing the media in Jinja today, Simon Byabakama, the Electoral Commission chairman urged all parties to play by the rules to have a smooth election
