Kasirye Gwanga promoted, retired for the second time

President Museveni has promoted no nonsense army officer Brig Kasirye Gwanga to the rank of Major General and at the same time retired him.

Gwanga joins a host of over 1300 other officers promoted by the commander in chief of the armed forces.

Also promoted is Colonels; Charles Wacha, Henry Isoke, Charles Byanyima, Kagoro Asingura who now become brigadiers.

The promotional message is embedded in a communication from the UPDF spokesperson, Richard Keremire which reads as thus;

H.E. Gen. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni the President of the Republic of Uganda and Commander in Chief of the UPDF on recommendation of the Commissions Board on 3rd  March 2018  approved the promotion to different ranks  of 1384 officers and militants to various ranks.

The  most senior are:

  1. Brig Kasirye Gwanga to Maj Gen. (to retire 2018)
  2. Brig Rwabantu to Maj Gen (Deputy General officer Commanding Reserves)
  3. Col Charles Wacha to Brig (Director Human Rights )
  4. Col Charles Byanyima to Brig (Commander Motorised Infantry Brigade)
  5. Col Henry Isoke to Brig (Deputy CMI)
  6. Col James Nambale to Brig (Adjutant General Headquarters )
  7. Col Kagoro Asingura to Brig (Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs Legal Officer)

It should be noted Kasirye Gwanga was retired from the army in May 2015,  but he lamented a few months later saying he is incapable of living a civilian life.

He became restless at the same time over a retirement package he had been given but he allegedly squandered it. On mercy of President Museveni, Gwanga was allowed to rejoin the army only on a renewable contract of five years.

In Jan 2017, Kasirye Gwanga while appearing on NBS TV's morning breeze said he would not salute the newly appointed CDF, Maj Gen David Muhoozi. " I would rather retire, but I cannot salute these young chaps," he said.
