Two armed robbers shot dead in Bweyogerere

Police is investigating circumstances under which suspected thugs attacked a businesswoman in Bweyogerere, slit her throat and then took off with money.

Two armed men were last evening tracked and killed by the police after officers chased them from Bweyogerere to Namanve.

Preliminary investigations reveal that the two suspects attacked Josephine Agaba Rwabyona in her shop, cut her using a panga and made away with Shillings 180,000 plus US Dollar 100 note.

The attackers went to a nearby Car Washing Bay and stole a Toyota Premio motor vehicle and made away.

Kampala metropolitan police commander Frank Mwesigwa says police was informed of the attack and began chasing after the suspects.

"We pursued them and when they realised we were catching up with them,  they abandoned the vehicle and got on a motorcycle," Mwesigwa said.

The suspects were shot as they tried to escape on a hijacked motorcycle. Police recovered an AK47 riffle,  a panga believed to have been used on Rwabyona and gloves.

Rwabyona has been taken to Mulago hospital for medical attention while bodies of the deceased have been taken to Mulago city Mortuary.
