Key suspects in Masaka panga wielding attacks escape from court, vanish in near by bush

Two key suspects in the recent panga wielding attacks in greater Masaka region have escaped from court.

There was drama as Muhammad Kiddawalime and Musa Ggaliwango escaped from the Masaka Chief magistrates court where they had been brought before Chief Magistrate Samuel Munobe for mention of their charges related to murder and robbery.

Shortly after being arraigned in court, the stood in unison, perched on their chairs before jumping through the near by windows and flying over the court fence and vanished to the nearby bushes.

The two suspects however exploited the chance of light deployment by police outside the court.

It is said that they later ran towards the nearby forest known as Kumbu, in Kimanya division in Masaka Municipality.

Meanwhile both the army and police, uniformed and in plain clothes from Masaka Central Police Station has deployed to kick off the search for the missing suspects.

The Southern Regional police spokesperson Lameck Kigozi however warned locals to be alert in case of attacks from the two suspects who are on loose.

On the new year’s day, machete wielding thugs attacked villages including; Kisojjo, Kyabagoma and Kyamabaale in Kibinge Sub County in Bukomansimbi district and Kiryasaaka found in Kkingo Sub County in Lwengo district killing five people including a retired senior officer and injuring twelve others.

The attackers would descend on villages at night, beat and cut locals before robbing them of their property including money.

The Inspector General of Police Gen.Kale Kayihura would later camp in the area for a number of days leading to arrest of a number of suspects.

Kayihura said then that the arrest of Musa Galiwango, was a big achievement to the force because he was believed to be the ring leader of the group terrorising the area before he was charged of a number of charges including murder.

The news that he escaped from court will not augur well with the locals for fear of resumption of the attacks on them.
