NUP in Disarray: Bwanika Questions Leadership in Explosive Interview, says NUP led by Miki Wine, Nubian Li
Abed Bwanika

A bombshell was dropped on NBS Frontline last night by Dr. Abed Bwanika, MP for Kimaanya Kabonera and member of the National Unity Platform (NUP). In an interview laced with astonishment and frustration, Bwanika directly challenged the transparency of the party's leadership.

The drama unfolded when Bwanika admitted his utter surprise upon being introduced to the party's National Executive Committee (NEC). He name-dropped prominent figures from the Ugandan music scene - Nubian Li, Mr Mosh and Mikie Wine - expressing he'd never met them before, despite them holding such high positions within NUP.

Bwanika's confusion deepened as he revealed a complete lack of understanding regarding how NEC members are even chosen. The very foundation of the party's leadership structure seemed shrouded in mystery.

"It's a very interesting political party," Bwanika remarked, his voice laced with sarcasm. He elaborated on being summoned to a meeting where Bobi Wine simply introduced these strangers as the NEC team.

But Bwanika wasn't done. He bravely pressed on, highlighting the lack of information about the complete NEC composition. He estimated roughly 20 members but admitted this was just a guess. This lack of transparency, he argued, was unacceptable.

The MP braced himself for the inevitable backlash, acknowledging, "I think they are going to abuse me online for one or two weeks." Yet, despite the potential consequences, Bwanika stood firm, emphasizing the importance of accountability within the party's leadership.

This isn't the first instance of friction between Bwanika and Bobi Wine. In 2023, a disagreement erupted over how to handle the detention of NUP members. Bwanika's suggestion of negotiation with President Museveni clashed with the party's more confrontational stance.

Bwanika's interview throws a wrench into the NUP's carefully constructed image. His accusations raise serious questions about internal communication and the true power dynamics within the party. As the dust settles, one thing is certain: the National Unity Platform faces a storm, and only time will tell if it can weather it.
