Minister Musasizi is seeking another term in Rubanda East
Now serving out his third consecutive term as MP for Rubanda East since 2011, Musasizi’s political journey is one shaped not by party patronage but by the weight of expectations he places on himself.

In the rolling highlands of Rubanda East, where community needs are as layered as the ridges of Kigezi, State Minister of Finance (General Duties) Henry Musasizi has carved a political profile grounded in pragmatism, professional discipline, and a clear development agenda for his people.

Now serving out his third consecutive term as MP for Rubanda East since 2011, Musasizi’s political journey is one shaped not by party patronage but by the weight of expectations he places on himself.

“I was inspired by a desire to change my society—not by any individual. I was looking for a platform to speak for those who cannot speak for themselves, especially the poor,” he told the Nile Post in an interview.

That drive to speak up and act meaningfully for his constituents has seen Musasizi channel his accounting expertise into tangible development results.

Having risen from a professional background that saw him work with Caritas Kabale and the African Medical and Research Foundation, the minister says that the shift from boardroom finance to national politics came with greater responsibilities—but also bigger opportunities.

“In the past, I was focused on managing field finances and monitoring projects. In Parliament, it’s different. You must ensure accountability, play an oversight role, and represent your people effectively,” he said.

Since taking office, Musasizi has prioritised service delivery in Rubanda East. From improving feeder roads that connect the mountainous sub-counties to better access to healthcare and education, he says progress is visible.

“Most of the goals we set for the constituency have been achieved. We’re now moving toward another set of achievements,” he says, without offering dramatic claims, but with measured satisfaction.

Musasizi is also keenly aware that politics is never a smooth ride.

“All hasn’t been good. But I’m grateful to the people of Rubanda East who have continued to give me an opportunity to make a contribution to my country,” he said.

That contribution has now extended to national fiscal policy. Appointed Minister of State for Finance in charge of General Duties in 2021, Musasizi says the opportunity was both surprising and affirming.

“I didn’t know the president personally until I became an MP. So to be trusted and placed in a ministry that aligns with my profession—it’s something I’m grateful for. I’m passionate about what I do.”

At the Finance ministry, he plays a critical role in coordinating planning and supporting policy implementation across sectors.

Asked how he manages the turbulence that often comes with such a docket, Musasizi says, “Much of the work passes through Cabinet. Even when there are challenges, our successes are not individual—they come through teamwork from both Cabinet and Parliament.”

As the 2026 elections draw closer, Musasizi has confirmed he will again stand on the NRM ticket, confident in his track record and hopeful for a peaceful democratic process.

“NRM has released its programme. It’s quite intense, but we’re preparing ourselves for the primaries,” he said.

Fourteen years into public office, Musasizi is described by Kigezi region leaders and analysts as a steady hand.

Local leaders say he is “multipurpose” and attuned to the varied needs of his constituents, while political analyst Dr John Paul Kasujja calls him “one of the best performers in the region,” particularly for his commitment to defending and strengthening the Finance Ministry during difficult budget cycles.

Henry Musasizi may not court the spotlight, but his journey from village accountant to Cabinet minister has been anything but accidental.

It has been one of purpose, consistency, and a quiet resolve to ensure Rubanda East doesn’t get left behind.
