Man arrested for impersonating senior police officer to grab land

A man who has been impersonating the Kampala Metropolitan East Regional Police Commander,  Senior Superintendent of Police, Joab Wabwire to grab land in Mukono has been arrested by police.

According to the victim, David Kanonya, he in 2014 bought four acres of land in Namuyenje parish, Nakisunga sub county in Mukono district but because he took long to develop it, one Deo Mwasa grabbed it.

“One time when I went to check on my land, I found Mwasa with a group of other people who attacked me. I was beaten severely but when I reported the matter to police, he was arrested briefly and released,” Kanonya said.

He noted that when he returned to the land, he found it being graded after all building materials including the chain link had been vandalized and was told by Mwasa that the land belongs to SSP Joab Wabwire, the Kampala Metropolitan East Regional Police Commander.

“When I heard this from Mwasa, I was advised by friends to write a complaint to the police headquarters at Naguru for redress. It is from this that Mwasa was arrested,” Kanonya said.

Kampala Metropolitan deputy police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire confirmed the arrest of Ssekibuule over impersonation.

“We have him in our custody at Jinja road Police station for impersonating the Kampala Metropolitan East Regional Police Commander. He was arrested after Ssekanonya sought the police headquarters’ intervention. We investigated the matter and arrested Mwasa,” Owoyesigyire said.

“When evidence is sufficient enough, the office of the resident state attorney will advise accordingly but we warn members of public against using names of people in authority in their personal land matters. Use it with evidence and for an objective of investigating the matter.”
