Mubende District councillors have launched a blistering attack on LCV Chairperson Michael Muhereza Ntambi and Woman MP Hope Grania Nakazibwe, accusing them of undermining the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) and frustrating development efforts in the district.

The accusations came during a Buganda Parliamentary Caucus meeting held at Kasana Playground in Mubende Municipality.

Christine Tushabwomwe, the District Woman Councillor for Kibalinga Sub-county, urged visiting ministers and Members of Parliament to take action against Ntambi, claiming he had become a liability to the party.

"I want to tell you that here in Mubende, the NRM is likely to lose in the coming elections if you leave Ntambi as district chairperson," Tushabwomwe said.

"He has repeatedly engaged in negative activities, and this is the time to plan how to distance him from the NRM."

She went further to declare her growing disillusionment with the party, threatening to support the opposition National Unity Platform (NUP).

"I have never voted for any NUP candidate, but this time around, I have some NUP people on my list because we are tired of Mr. Ntambi," she added.

Happy Cleophas, councillor for Lubimbiri Sub-county, described Ntambi as a “cancer” to Mubende’s progress. He accused him of stifling district development and even sabotaging the Buganda Caucus meeting.

"Our district chairperson has suffocated everything—he even went as far as instructing all executive members not to attend this event. What kind of leadership is that?" Cleophas asked.

He also raised allegations of corruption, particularly surrounding the mismanagement of Ebola response funds.

"Over Shs500 million meant for Ebola was mismanaged, with no accountability. Yet, the chairman is still in office. We want to clean our party, and this is why the NRM is losing support in Mubende," he said.

District Youth Councillor Saudah Kitondekigya echoed the frustration, criticising Woman MP Nakazibwe for what she called neglect of her constituents and unequal service delivery.

"Our Woman MP has disappointed us. She even refused to attend youth council meetings—how will she represent our issues in Parliament?" she asked.

Kitondekigya also shared her personal ordeal from the 2021 election campaign, saying Ntambi subjected her to undue pressure simply because she had the NRM flag.

"I reached a point where I almost failed to give birth and had to undergo surgery. It was due to the stress and pressure Ntambi put on me during my campaign," she revealed.

Mubende Municipality MP Bashir Lubega Ssempa welcomed the Buganda Caucus to the district and thanked them for hearing out local leaders.

"We are very happy for today’s 'Buganda Ku Museveni' initiative here in Mubende. Our local leaders have finally had the opportunity to present the challenges to the relevant authorities," Ssempa said.

Lwemiyaga County MP Theodore Ssekikubo warned residents to be wary of self-styled political heavyweights undermining party unity.

"You should avoid people who want to be the alpha and omega in your district. We all have one goal—to retain NRM support," Ssekikubo said.

Ministers Haruna Kyeyune Kasolo and Hajjati Hanifa Kawooya pledged to follow up on the issues raised and encouraged continued support for the NRM and President Museveni.

"We are going to work hard to ensure that all these challenges are addressed. But we emphasize the need for you to continue voting for President Museveni and all NRM members in the coming elections," they said.

Out of the five Members of Parliament from Mubende District, only two attended the meeting, a notable absence that left many residents questioning the commitment of their leaders.
