In a move to bridge the digital divide and promote ICT literacy in Uganda, MTN Uganda has handed over a fully equipped computer laboratory and 30 brand-new computers to Town View PEAS High School in Bugiri District.
The handover ceremony, held at the school premises, was graced by several dignitaries and local leaders, including Bugiri District Woman Member of Parliament, Agnes Wejuli, who lauded MTN Uganda for its impactful contribution towards education and youth empowerment.
“This initiative is a significant milestone in empowering students with essential digital skills for the modern world,” Ttaaka remarked. “It shall bridge our learners to global opportunities. I urge students to use this facility to explore new skills, discover their passions, and build the future they dream of. From rural Bugiri, you now have the same digital access as your peers anywhere in Uganda.”
Allan Njagala, Head of Commercial Eastern Region at MTN Uganda, highlighted the importance of the initiative in transforming communities.
“Today’s handover of a fully equipped ICT lab marks a turning point for Town View PEAS High School. In rural communities like Bugiri, access to digital tools is limited but today, we’re changing that narrative by giving every student a fair chance to compete and succeed in the digital age,” Njagala stated.
Moses Wobugwe, the Head Teacher of Town View PEAS High School, noted that the high-tech machines come amidst a new curriculum which demands hands-on training.
“The new curriculum entails learners to do more research, so these computers shall be helpful to our learners to make research and e-learning,” he said. “We thank MTN for this initiative because they have equipped our computer laboratory with free Wi-Fi, CCTV cameras, a printer, among others.”
The donation is part of the ongoing MTN Foundation Digital Access Project, a Shs 285 million initiative aimed at providing 30 PEAS schools with computer laboratories.
Each school benefits from 30 computers, free internet access for a year, power backup solutions, and access to the MTN Skills Academy platform. Over 16,000 students across the country are expected to benefit from the program, gaining hands-on digital skills and exposure to technology-driven learning environments.
The initiative reflects MTN Uganda’s broader commitment to supporting education and fostering inclusive digital opportunities for all Ugandans, regardless of geographical location.
