With just hours to go before polling stations open, tension is mounting among the 10 candidates vying for the vacant Kawempe North parliamentary seat.
The highly anticipated by-election has seen intense campaigning, and now, all eyes are on the voters who will decide the outcome.
Moses Nsereko, a former NUP candidate now contesting as an independent, is among those eagerly awaiting the big day.
“I’ve been working tirelessly, and now it’s almost time. I feel both nervous and excited,” Nsereko said, clutching his signature red chair, a symbol of his campaign.
He has stationed five agents at each polling station to safeguard the vote. “We are taking all necessary measures to protect our votes and ensure a fair process,” he added.
NRM candidate Faridah Nambi remains confident as she makes final preparations.
“The people of Kawempe North are ready for change, and I am ready to serve them,” she said, rallying her team ahead of the election.
DP’s Henry Kasacca is equally optimistic. “This is a crucial election, and we’ve put in the work. I’m hopeful for a positive outcome,” he said, noting that his team is also deploying agents across polling stations.
Independent candidate Hanifah Karadi, known for her signature kikooyi attire throughout the campaign, is determined to see the process through. “I’ve given this my all, and tomorrow, I will be there with my supporters, hoping for a fair election,” she said.
Across the board, candidates are emphasizing the need for transparency, with many deploying multiple agents to oversee the vote.
“I’m confident in the process and have ensured that everything is in place for a free and fair election,” Karadi said. Nambi, Kasacca, and Nsereko echoed similar sentiments, stressing vigilance and fairness.
On March 14, Kawempe North voters will head to the polls to elect a new Member of Parliament, filling the seat left vacant by the late Mohammad Ssegirinya.
As the race enters its final stretch, all eyes will be on Kawempe North to see who emerges victorious.
